Deadly Communal Clashes in Nasarawa State Leave 11 Dead, Homes Destroyed

LAFIA, Nasarawa — At least eleven people have been killed and more than 50 houses burnt following violent communal clashes in the Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 3, 2026, according to police and local reports. �

The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the deaths and destruction in a statement issued on Saturday, attributing the violence to a reprisal attack by suspected hoodlums over the alleged killing of two individuals from one of the communities. �

Police Public Relations Officer SP Ramhan Nansel said about 50 homes were razed in Akyawa and two in Udege Kasa during the attacks, which sparked panic and forced residents to flee their homes. �

Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed visited the affected communities and expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and property. He assured residents of intensified efforts to apprehend those responsible, ordering an intensive manhunt by tactical and investigative units. �

Security has since been reinforced in the area with additional police personnel working alongside military and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps units to restore and maintain peace.
