Zamfara, Nigeria 🇳🇬 August 25, 2026

Troops of the 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State, have arrested two suspected terrorists during a night fighting patrol in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

The operation, conducted in the early hours of Monday, 25 August 2026, was part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to disrupt the activities of terrorists and other criminal elements operating within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Captain Yusuf Mohammed, the troops encountered and apprehended the suspects at about 1:50 a.m.

The suspects were identified as 25-year-old Jabiru Hassan and 23-year-old Umaru Bello, both reportedly from Ilela Village in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Items recovered during the operation include one AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated Dane gun, two rifle magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 18 Dane gun cartridges.

The troops also recovered a motorcycle, two Baofeng radio sets, a mobile phone, two MP3 players, a camouflage vest, two jungle hats, a handbag and ₦44,500 in cash.

Preliminary examination of the suspects’ mobile phone reportedly revealed photographs and video materials considered potentially incriminating and of intelligence value. The materials are currently undergoing further verification and exploitation by relevant authorities to determine their significance and possible links to terrorist activities in the area.

The Army said the operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations, aggressive fighting patrols and sustained troop presence in vulnerable areas across Zamfara State.

The Acting Commander of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Colonel J. Umaru, commended the troops for their vigilance, courage and professionalism. He urged personnel to sustain the momentum of offensive operations and continue denying terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility.

He further reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to protecting lives and property while supporting efforts to restore lasting peace and security across Zamfara State.

The latest arrests and recovery of weapons, ammunition and communication equipment represent another setback for criminal elements operating in the Kaura Namoda axis.
