GOMBE: Journalist Hafsat Adamu Allegedly Attacked by Armed Kalare Youths, Phone Snatched at Knifepoint
Hafsat Adamu Appeals to Governorship Aspirant to Recover Her iPhone 11 Pro Max, Warns of Possible Legal Action
A female journalist in Gombe State, Hafsat Adamu, who works with Farin Wata and Arewa A Yau, has alleged that three youths armed with knives threatened her life and snatched her mobile phone during an incident that reportedly occurred on October 4, 2026.
According to Hafsat, the incident happened at approximately 6:45 p.m. behind the residence of Senator Danjuma Goje in Gombe State while she was travelling in a commercial tricycle, popularly known as Keke Napep.
She alleged that the three individuals threatened to kill her if she refused to surrender her black iPhone 11 Pro Max.
The journalist further alleged that the suspects were Kalare youths associated with a governorship aspirant in Gombe State. However, the alleged political affiliation of the individuals has not been independently verified.
Journalist Demands Immediate Return of Her Phone
Hafsat has appealed to the governorship aspirant to investigate the incident and ensure the immediate return of her phone, which she said contains important documents and materials relating to her professional work.
According to her account, she reported the incident immediately to an individual she identified as one of the aspirant's associates. She said the individual promised to assist in recovering the phone and returning it to her.
However, Hafsat expressed disappointment that the device had yet to be returned as of the time of her complaint.
She stressed that the phone contains important work-related documents whose loss could affect her professional responsibilities.
The journalist has therefore called on the aspirant to take the matter seriously, investigate the alleged involvement of his associates and ensure that the device is returned without further delay.
She also warned that she might seek legal redress if the matter remained unresolved.
Hafsat Condemns Alleged Use of Armed Youths During Political Activities
The journalist expressed concern over what she described as the alleged activities of Kalare youths carrying knives and engaging in the snatching of personal belongings under the cover of political campaign activities.
She condemned any conduct that threatens the safety of innocent citizens and called for an end to the alleged use of armed youths during political rallies and mobilisation exercises.
Hafsat disclosed that she had recorded two videos in which she expressed her sadness and disappointment over the incident. However, she said she had decided not to release the videos publicly while hoping that her phone would be recovered.
According to her, she does not want to unnecessarily tarnish the image of any politician and would prefer that the matter be resolved peacefully.
Nevertheless, she maintained that the alleged incident must not be ignored, particularly given the threats she said she faced and the importance of the documents stored on her phone.
The incident has prompted calls for relevant security agencies to investigate the allegations, identify those responsible and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
Security agencies have also been urged to caution political aspirants and their supporters against the alleged involvement of armed youths in campaign activities, particularly where such conduct could endanger members of the public.
Political campaigns should promote peaceful participation, democratic engagement and respect for the rights of citizens. No individual should be threatened or deprived of personal property while going about legitimate daily activities.
The governorship aspirant concerned should urgently address the allegation, while the appropriate authorities should establish the facts surrounding the incident.
As of the time of this report, the allegations have not been independently verified, and no official response from the aspirant or the security agencies was available.
Hafsat Adamu is calling for the immediate recovery of her phone, a transparent investigation and accountability for anyone found responsible. The matter deserves prompt attention to ensure that the safety of citizens is not compromised by political activities in Gombe State.
