Atiku Condemns Abduction of Ahmed Zakka, Wife and Infant in Kaduna, Faults Government’s Security Response

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the reported abduction of Ahmed Abubakar Zakka, his wife and their infant daughter in Kaduna State, calling on security agencies to urgently secure their release.

Atiku reacted to a disturbing video circulating on social media that reportedly showed Zakka appealing for help while in the custody of his abductors. The incident has renewed concerns over the security challenges confronting residents in parts of the country.

In his reaction, the former Vice President described the incident as a painful reminder of the insecurity threatening lives and tearing families apart across Nigeria.

“No Nigerian should have to plead for their life or the safety of their family in the hands of criminals,” Atiku said, expressing particular concern over the involvement of an infant in the ordeal.

He urged the relevant security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to secure the safe release of Zakka, his wife, their child and other Nigerians still held in captivity.

The ADC presidential candidate also highlighted the economic difficulties facing Nigerian households, noting that rising food prices, transportation costs and other essential expenses have placed significant pressure on families.

According to him, Nigerians should not have to contend with the rising cost of living while also living in fear of abduction in their homes or on the roads.

Atiku maintained that insecurity further deepens hardship, disrupts livelihoods and imposes emotional and financial burdens on affected families.

His criticism forms part of broader concerns over the government's response to persistent security threats. He called for concrete and sustained action rather than assurances, urging the authorities to prioritise the rescue of abducted persons, protect vulnerable communities and dismantle criminal networks responsible for kidnapping.

Atiku stressed that every Nigerian deserves to live, work and raise a family without the constant fear of violence.

He also extended his thoughts and prayers to the Zakka family and others enduring the trauma of kidnapping, reiterating that protecting the lives of citizens must remain a fundamental responsibility of government.

The reported abduction has drawn attention to the continuing threat posed by kidnappers and the urgent need for effective security measures to protect communities and bring victims home safely.

As of the time of this report, the immediate priority remains the safe recovery of Ahmed Zakka, his wife and their infant daughter.
