The Jewel Environmental Initiative (JEI), Gombe State ACReSAL Focal NGO, has planted 550 trees in Sabon Gari Bogo, also known as Hayin Kwarin Misau, as part of efforts to support environmental protection and climate-change mitigation initiatives in Gombe State.
The tree-planting exercise, which involved different species of trees, also included the free distribution of tree seedlings to members of the community to encourage wider participation in environmental conservation.
The initiative is in line with the environmental vision of the Gombe State Government under Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, popularly known as the “Green Governor,” whose administration has continued to promote measures aimed at tackling climate change, desertification and environmental degradation across the state.
Speaking during the exercise, the District Head of Sabon Gari Bogo, Alhaji Dahiru Waziri, expressed appreciation to Gombe State ACReSAL and its focal NGO, Jewel Environmental Initiative, for the intervention and support provided to the community.
He described the initiative as timely and assured the organisers of the community’s continued support for government policies and programmes aimed at improving the environment and advancing the development of Gombe State.
In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of Jewel Environmental Initiative, Comrade Samaila Bima (Mai Gwambawa), who was represented by Malam Dahiru Adamu, the team lead of the exercise, urged members of the community to take proper care of the trees planted.
He appealed to residents to continue watering and protecting the seedlings, particularly after the rainy season, to improve their chances of survival and ensure that they grow to maturity.
Malam Dahiru described the exercise as successful, noting that residents of Sabon Gari Bogo embraced the initiative with enthusiasm and demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental protection.
The exercise was attended by members of the Jewel Environmental Initiative team, the Sabon Gari Bogo ACReSAL Community Association and other members of the community.
The initiative highlights the importance of community participation in tackling environmental challenges and contributes to ongoing efforts to build a greener, healthier and more climate-resilient Gombe State.
