Bauchi ACReSAL Empowers 440 Farmers with Climate-Smart Agriculture Skills, Improved Seeds

Bauchi, Nigeria - June 15, 2026

 In a major effort to strengthen food security and climate resilience, the Bauchi State Project Management Unit of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project has trained 440 farmers on Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) and distributed improved seeds to beneficiaries across the state's 20 Local Government Areas.

The farmers, drawn from various Community Interest Groups (CIGs), participated in a step-down capacity-building programme conducted at demonstration plots established within the 20 plant nursery development units created by the project across the state.

The training was facilitated by Agricultural Extension Agents and ACReSAL officials in the respective local government areas, with a focus on equipping farmers with modern agricultural techniques aimed at increasing productivity, improving livelihoods, and enhancing resilience to climate change.

Participants received practical lessons on climate-smart agricultural practices, including proper land preparation, sustainable soil management, efficient utilization of farm inputs, and the application of environmentally friendly farming methods. Facilitators also emphasized the importance of using organic fertilizers to improve soil fertility and increase crop yields while protecting the environment.

Farmers were further guided on the proper measurement and application of improved seeds, organic fertilizers, and agrochemicals to ensure maximum efficiency, minimize wastage, and promote sustainable farming practices.

Speaking during the training sessions, ACReSAL officials reiterated the project's commitment to supporting farming communities with the knowledge and resources needed to adapt to changing climatic conditions. They also encouraged beneficiaries to strengthen collaboration within their groups, noting that teamwork enhances access to opportunities, knowledge sharing, and collective growth.

The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Bauchi ACReSAL Project for the intervention, describing the training and seed distribution as timely support ahead of the farming season. They noted that the skills acquired would help them improve farm productivity and achieve better harvests.

Representatives of the Community Interest Groups commended the project for its continued investment in farmers' capacity development and agricultural support initiatives.

The programme forms part of ACReSAL's broader strategy to promote sustainable land management, climate resilience, environmental restoration, and improved livelihoods for rural communities across Bauchi State.
