Gombe PDP Suspends Mailantarki, Garry for One Month, Refers Cases to Disciplinary Committee

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has suspended two of its governorship aspirants, Hon. Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki and Hon. Usman Aliyu Garry, following allegations of anti-party activities and conduct deemed inconsistent with the party’s constitution.

The decision was reached at an emergency joint meeting of the PDP State Working Committee and executives of Dawaki and Herwagana wards, where the two politicians are members.

The party said both aspirants had voluntarily accepted to participate in the September 29, 2026 fresh governorship primary but subsequently engaged in actions and statements which, according to the party leadership, amounted to gross misconduct.

Particular attention was drawn to Mailantarki’s post-primary declaration in which he claimed to be the legitimate winner of the exercise and rejected the result that produced Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami as the party’s governorship candidate. Reports confirmed that Pantami was officially declared winner, while Mailantarki and Garry came second and third respectively.

The PDP leadership said such conduct could cause confusion and division within the party and therefore warranted disciplinary action.

Consequently, Mailantarki and Garry have been placed on a one-month suspension, while their cases have been forwarded to the party’s Disciplinary Committee for further action.

The development follows weeks of legal and political controversy over the PDP governorship ticket in Gombe. The Federal High Court had earlier ordered the party to conduct a fresh primary, leading to the September 29 exercise.

The latest suspension further deepens the internal contest surrounding the party’s 2027 governorship ticket and could have implications for the party’s efforts to reconcile the different camps following the disputed primary.
