Troops Repel Midnight Terrorist Attack in Yobe, Neutralise 24 Insurgents

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI under Sector 2 have successfully foiled a coordinated terrorist attack on Kukareta in Yobe State, killing at least 24 insurgents and recovering a large cache of weapons.

The attack, which began shortly after midnight on Thursday, lasted for about three hours before the troops overwhelmed the assailants with what military authorities described as a swift and coordinated response.

According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East), the troops adopted a combined offensive-defensive strategy that forced the attackers into a chaotic retreat.

During the operation, soldiers reportedly inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorists, while ongoing clearance efforts continue to uncover more bodies and abandoned equipment along their escape routes.

Recovered items from the scene include 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), two PKT anti-aircraft guns, three Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, two mortar tubes, four hand grenades, and several magazines, along with large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition.

The military also confirmed that two soldiers sustained injuries during the exchange of fire but have since been stabilised. Additionally, one armoured vehicle was damaged after its tyres were blown out during the intense combat.

The statement noted that exploitation operations are ongoing to track fleeing terrorists and recover more weapons, stressing that the area has been secured.

Military authorities say the success of the operation demonstrates the growing resilience and combat effectiveness of troops under Operation HADIN KAI, as efforts intensify to dismantle terrorist networks across the North-East.

They reaffirmed commitment to sustaining offensive operations aimed at completely eliminating insurgent threats in the region.
