Power Supply Drops Across North-Central, Jos Disco Blames National Grid Shortfall

Jos Electricity Distribution Company has explained the recent decline in electricity supply affecting Plateau, Bauchi, Benue, and Gombe states, attributing the situation to reduced power allocation from Nigeria’s national grid.

Speaking to journalists in Jos, the company’s spokesperson, Saratu Dauda, said the drop in supply is beyond the company’s control, as distribution companies can only deliver electricity based on what they receive from the grid.

She noted that the current shortage is a direct result of decreased generation and allocation at the national level.

“The reduction in power supply is a result of decreased allocation from the national grid. Our capacity to supply electricity depends entirely on what is made available to us,” she stated.

Dauda appealed to customers in the affected states to remain patient, assuring that the company is working closely with relevant stakeholders to improve the situation and restore stable supply.

“We are engaging stakeholders and making efforts to improve supply. We appreciate the understanding and patience of our customers during this period,” she added.

The development highlights ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s power sector, where fluctuations in generation and grid instability continue to disrupt electricity distribution across the country.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has apologised to Nigerians over the recent decline in electricity supply, linking it to reduced power generation and persistent structural issues within the sector.
