ADC Crisis Deepens as State Chairmen Reject Mark, Bala Factions, Announce Interim Leadership

The internal crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a dramatic turn as the party’s State Chairmen Forum publicly rejected the factions led by David Mark and Nafiu Bala, accusing them of hijacking the party’s structure.

At a press conference held on Tuesday in Abuja, the forum—speaking through Don Obinna—announced the formation of an interim leadership to steer the affairs of the party amid the deepening leadership dispute.

Obinna, who is the chairman of the ADC in Abia State, said the actions of the Mark and Bala-led factions were unconstitutional and did not reflect the will of the party’s “bonafide members” across the states.

“We categorically reject the leadership claims of those who have hijacked the party structure for personal and selfish interests,” Obinna declared.

The State Chairmen Forum alleged that both factions emerged through irregular processes that sidelined established party organs at the state level. According to the forum, the developments have created confusion within the party and weakened its internal cohesion.

They insisted that neither faction has the legitimacy to speak for the ADC, stressing that the authority of the party must rest with duly recognized structures, including state executives.

In a bid to restore order, the forum announced the establishment of an interim leadership committee tasked with reorganizing the party and preparing the ground for a transparent and inclusive national convention.

Obinna noted that the interim body would work to reconcile aggrieved members and ensure that due process is followed in selecting the party’s national leadership.

The forum also called on members of the party nationwide to remain calm and support the interim arrangement, assuring that efforts are underway to resolve the crisis through dialogue and adherence to the party’s constitution.
