NDLEA arrests Chinese woman with drug shipment at Lagos airport

Lagos, Nigeria- 24 May, 2026

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a Chinese woman at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for allegedly attempting to smuggle a consignment of “Canadian Loud,” a strong strain of cannabis, into Nigeria.

According to the agency, the suspect was intercepted during inward clearance operations at the airport following intelligence reports and routine screening by NDLEA operatives. The illicit drug, concealed in luggage, was reportedly recovered before it could be moved out of the airport facility.

NDLEA said the arrest forms part of its intensified nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking networks and illicit substance distribution across the country.

The anti-narcotics agency also disclosed that several other drug-related operations carried out in different parts of Nigeria led to the seizure of assorted narcotics, including cannabis, tramadol, cocaine, and methamphetamine, as well as the arrest of multiple suspects linked to drug trafficking activities.

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers involved in the operations for their vigilance and dedication, reiterating the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug cartels and curbing the inflow of illegal substances into the country.

The agency further warned traffickers and criminal networks that Nigerian airports, seaports, and border routes remain under close surveillance as authorities continue efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking nationwide.
