NBA Gombe Holds 2026 Law Week, Calls for Stronger Justice Sector Reforms

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Gombe Branch, has commenced its 2026 Law Week with a renewed call for legal practitioners to play a more active role in advancing justice sector reforms across the country.

The annual event, which brings together lawyers, judges, academics, public officials and other stakeholders in the justice sector, is themed "Strengthening Justice Sector Reforms: Lawyers as Agents of Change."

Speaking at the opening of the Law Week, leaders of the branch emphasized the need for legal professionals to champion reforms aimed at improving access to justice, enhancing the rule of law and strengthening public confidence in the judicial system.

The week-long programme features a series of activities, including lectures, panel discussions, networking sessions and professional engagements designed to address contemporary legal and governance issues affecting Nigeria.

A welcome cocktail party held at the High Court Complex in Gombe marked the commencement of the event, providing an opportunity for members of the legal profession and invited guests to interact and exchange ideas on the future of the justice sector.

Organizers said the theme was carefully selected to reflect the critical role lawyers play in promoting accountability, defending democratic values and supporting institutional reforms.

Participants are expected to deliberate on challenges confronting the administration of justice and explore practical solutions that will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the legal system.

The NBA Gombe Branch expressed optimism that discussions and recommendations from the 2026 Law Week would contribute significantly to ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening the justice sector and deepening the rule of law in Nigeria.

The event is expected to attract senior legal practitioners, judges, government officials and members of the wider legal community from within and outside Gombe State.
