APC National Chairman Commissions 11.5km Road, Integrated Vegetable Market in Gombe

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, alongside Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has commissioned the 11.5-kilometre Kwadon–Kunji–Jada–Goni Bukar–Laleko Road in Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State.

The APC National Chairman also inaugurated a modern Integrated Vegetable Market in Kwadon, constructed by the National Agricultural Land Development Authority in partnership with the Gombe State Government.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Professor Yilwatda described the road project as a strategic infrastructure investment that will enhance agricultural productivity, strengthen food security, and stimulate economic activities across the benefiting communities.

According to him, the road will improve access to farming areas, facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce, and boost commercial activities within the region.

Commenting on the newly inaugurated vegetable market, the APC National Chairman praised the collaboration between the Gombe State Government and NALDA, describing it as a model partnership that demonstrates effective cooperation between the Federal and State Governments in advancing agricultural development.

He noted that the market would provide farmers and traders with a modern and conducive environment for the sale and distribution of agricultural products while helping to reduce post-harvest losses.

Professor Yilwatda also commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for what he described as purposeful leadership and people-oriented governance, saying the governor’s achievements reflect the aspirations of the people and align with the development objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The people I saw on the streets celebrating the governor were not just party members. Traders, farmers, and even herders came out to welcome him. That is a reflection of the prosperity and confidence his administration is creating among the people,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the support enjoyed by the governor and the APC in the state would translate into electoral success for the party and its candidates in future elections.

Speaking separately at the road and market commissioning ceremonies, Governor Inuwa Yahaya explained that the 11.5-kilometre road was constructed to open up communities known for large-scale production of perishable agricultural commodities supplied to markets across Nigeria.

The governor noted that Kwadon serves as a major aggregation and distribution centre for farm produce, making the road project essential for improving access to farmlands, expanding agricultural activities, and reducing transportation challenges.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya also highlighted the Federal Government’s approval of the reconstruction of the Gombe–Biu Super Highway, describing the project as a significant boost to agricultural and commercial activities between Gombe State and communities along the Biu axis in Southern Borno State.

He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the project, which he said would further strengthen regional economic integration and improve connectivity.

Speaking on the Integrated Vegetable Market project, the Executive Secretary of NALDA, Engr. Cornelius Adebayo, described the initiative as a lasting legacy that showcases the benefits of collaboration between development agencies and state governments.

He commended the Gombe State Government for providing supporting infrastructure, including perimeter fencing, water supply, lighting facilities, and other amenities necessary for the effective operation of the market.

Earlier, the Director-General of the Gombe State Project Development and Essential Social Services Agency, Bldr. Mahmoud Yusuf, disclosed that the market consists of 160 shops and has been complemented with critical infrastructure such as perimeter fencing, a 1.3-kilometre access road, solar-powered boreholes, and solar street lights.

The commissioning of the road and vegetable market is expected to enhance agricultural value chains, improve market access for farmers, and contribute to economic growth and food security in Gombe State.
