APC NWC Halts Announcement of Reps Primary Results Nationwide
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress has directed all state panels conducting the House of Representatives primary elections to stop announcing candidates and results across the country amid rising internal disputes within the party.
According to a memo issued by the party leadership, all committees handling the National Assembly primaries have been ordered to collate their reports and forward them to the APC national headquarters in Abuja for central collation and official announcement.
The directive, reportedly signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Mohammed Argungu, warned state panels against holding media briefings or independently declaring winners in their states.
The development followed growing complaints from party stakeholders over alleged irregularities, disagreements among panel members, and accusations of external interference in the ongoing primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tension was said to be particularly high in Ondo State, where members of the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee reportedly disagreed over the declaration of some aspirants as consensus candidates.
Sources within the party disclosed that the crisis deepened after the secretary of the committee and two other members allegedly returned to Abuja, leaving the remaining officials stranded at the collation centre in Akure.
The dispute reportedly centred on attempts to declare some aspirants winners despite earlier reports of their disqualification by the party screening committee.
The APC leadership’s intervention is seen as an effort to prevent further controversy and maintain control over the sensitive primary process as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that several serving lawmakers across different states lost their return tickets during the APC House of Representatives primaries, a development that has triggered fresh political tensions within the party.
Political observers believe the decision by the NWC to centralise the announcement of results may help reduce conflicting declarations and possible litigation arising from disputed outcomes.
The APC had earlier postponed the House of Representatives primary election by one day before conducting the exercise nationwide.
