Tinubu Commissions Gateway International Airport, Other Key Projects in Ogun

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially commissioned the Gateway International Airport in Ogun State, marking a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure and economic development drive.

The newly completed airport, located in Iperu-Ilishan, is expected to boost connectivity, attract investment, and position Ogun State as a major logistics and industrial hub in Nigeria. Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, President Tinubu described the project as a “bold step toward economic transformation,” emphasizing the importance of modern infrastructure in driving national growth.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, who hosted the President, highlighted that the Gateway International Airport is designed to serve both passenger and cargo needs, with a strong focus on supporting agro-export and industrial activities within the state and beyond. According to him, the airport will complement Ogun’s status as one of Nigeria’s leading industrial centers.

In addition to the airport, President Tinubu also commissioned several other landmark projects across the state. These include major road networks, housing developments, and public service facilities aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and enhancing economic productivity.

The Governor noted that the projects reflect his administration’s commitment to infrastructure-led development, job creation, and improved service delivery. He added that the airport project, in particular, has the potential to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities.

President Tinubu commended the Ogun State Government for its vision and execution, urging other states to emulate such forward-thinking initiatives. He reiterated the Federal Government’s support for sub-national efforts that align with national development priorities.

The commissioning ceremony attracted top government officials, traditional rulers, business leaders, and members of the public, all of whom lauded the development as a game-changer for the region.

Analysts believe that the Gateway International Airport could significantly ease pressure on existing aviation hubs in southwestern Nigeria, while opening up new economic corridors for trade and tourism.

With this development, Ogun State strengthens its position as a strategic gateway to Nigeria’s commercial capital and a key player in the country’s economic future.
