head of Earth Day 2026: Kaduna Climate Body Raises Alarm Over Environmental Threats
Kaduna, Nigeria — As the world prepares to mark International Mother Earth Day on April 22, 2026, the Kaduna State Climate Change Accountability Mechanism (KADCCAM) has called for urgent and sustained action to address rising environmental challenges threatening communities across the state.
In a statement issued by its Co-Chair, Ibrahima Yakubu, the body joined the global community in reaffirming the need to protect and preserve the environment, warning that increasing environmental degradation and climate change impacts require immediate attention.
KADCCAM identified key concerns including deforestation, pollution, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss, noting that these challenges continue to pose serious risks to livelihoods, public health, and sustainable development.
The mechanism urged stakeholders to adopt practical and sustainable solutions such as afforestation and reforestation programmes, improved waste management systems to tackle plastic pollution, increased use of renewable energy, and stricter enforcement of environmental regulations.
It also emphasized the importance of climate education and public awareness to promote responsible environmental practices at all levels of society.
According to the statement, there is a need for increased investment in climate-resilient agriculture, effective water conservation strategies, and sustainable urban development to strengthen resilience against climate-related risks.
KADCCAM further stressed that strong collaboration among government institutions, the private sector, civil society organisations, and local communities remains critical to achieving meaningful and lasting environmental progress.
As the global observance of Earth Day approaches, the body urged all stakeholders to take proactive and sustained actions to safeguard the environment and ensure a healthier and more sustainable future for Kaduna State and beyond.
