Gombe 2027: Inuwa Yahaya Backs Yamaltu/Deba Push for Gombe Central Senate Seat

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has expressed support for calls by stakeholders in Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area to produce the next senator representing Gombe Central in the 2027 general elections.

The governor made this known while receiving a delegation from the area at the Government House in Gombe. The group included traditional rulers, political figures across party lines, technocrats, and representatives of youth and women groups, all advocating for what they described as equitable representation within the senatorial district.

Addressing the delegation, Yahaya assured them that their request would be given due consideration, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to fairness and inclusivity in governance. He noted that democratic leadership must reflect the will of the people and accommodate the interests of all groups.

According to the governor, the demand by Yamaltu/Deba stakeholders aligns with broader democratic principles, particularly the idea of rotational representation to ensure no community feels excluded from political opportunities.

He also acknowledged that the appeal had been formally communicated to key national party leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.

Yahaya referenced previous political arrangements in the state, citing the example of Gombe South, where consensus and unity among stakeholders played a significant role in shaping representation outcomes. He urged the people of Yamaltu/Deba to remain united and peaceful as they pursue their political aspirations.

Earlier, leaders of the delegation—including federal and state lawmakers, local government officials, and traditional rulers—argued that the Gombe Central senatorial seat has long been held by representatives from Akko Local Government Area. They maintained that rotating the position to Yamaltu/Deba would promote fairness, balance, and inclusiveness within the district.

The development signals growing political momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, as discussions around zoning and representation continue to shape alignments within Gombe State’s political landscape.
