Troops Kill Lakurawa Terrorists, Recover Weapons And Rustled Livestock In Sokoto, Katsina

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised several suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered weapons as well as rustled livestock during separate military operations in Sokoto State and Katsina State.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by Olaniyi Osoba, the operations were part of ongoing offensives against terrorists and bandits operating in the North-West region.

The Army said troops responded to a distress call over an attempted arson attack by members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group at a Nigerian Immigration Service facility in Ruwa Wiri Village, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

During the encounter, troops engaged the attackers in a firefight, killing two suspected terrorists, while others reportedly fled following intense military pressure.

Security forces later carried out a follow-up operation in the area, leading to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and a motorcycle believed to belong to the fleeing terrorists.

In a separate operation in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops on fighting patrol intercepted suspected bandits moving with rustled livestock around Danya Bakwai Settlement.

The troops engaged the criminals, forcing them to abandon 62 rustled animals before escaping from the scene.

Military authorities said the recovered livestock were later returned to their rightful owners during a handover ceremony held at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia.

The Army reaffirmed that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to combating terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities across the region, while urging residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies.
