Tinubu Establishes Special Fund for Troops, Donates Salaries as Seed Support

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the creation of a special fund dedicated to supporting Nigerian troops, injured military personnel, and families of fallen heroes, as part of activities marking his 74th birthday.

The President made the announcement on Sunday, stating that he has directed the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to immediately establish a dedicated account for the initiative.

According to him, the fund is aimed at providing direct assistance to soldiers wounded in active service, as well as widows, widowers, and children of personnel who lost their lives defending the nation.

In a show of personal commitment, President Tinubu disclosed that all his salaries since assuming office will be donated into the account as seed funding, regardless of existing welfare and insurance schemes for members of the Armed Forces.

He emphasized that the initiative is not an act of charity but a national responsibility to honor and support those who risk their lives for the country’s peace and security.

The President also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, private sector stakeholders, and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the fund to boost the morale of troops on the front lines.

Details of the special account are expected to be made public in due course.

President Tinubu reaffirmed the nation’s obligation to its armed forces, stressing that their sacrifices must never be forgotten.
