Nigerian Navy Neutralizes IPOB/ESN IED Cell, Destroys Explosives in Imo

The Nigerian Navy has recorded a major operational success following a coordinated clearance operation targeting suspected IPOB/ESN elements in Imo State, in a move aimed at strengthening security and protecting civilian lives in the South-East.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the operation was executed by the Naval Base Oguta Tactical Patrol Squadron in collaboration with other security agencies. The joint forces conducted a sweeping clearance of identified criminal enclaves within the Orsu–Ihiteukwa axis, including the volatile Mother Valley general area in Orsu Local Government Area, which has been linked to repeated security threats.

During the carefully planned operation, troops encountered multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), confirming intelligence reports of an active bomb-making network operating within the area. The discovery heightened alert among the troops, prompting a more detailed exploitation of the location.

Further search operations led to the uncovering of a suspected IED fabrication site concealed within the hideouts. Acting on this, naval personnel executed a coordinated ambush at the facility, successfully neutralizing two individuals believed to be key IED specialists responsible for assembling explosive devices used in attacks across the region.

All explosives and hazardous materials recovered at the scene were professionally handled and safely destroyed in situ by the operatives, effectively eliminating imminent threats to both civilians and security personnel.

The Navy confirmed that the operation was conducted without any casualties among its personnel, with all equipment remaining intact, underscoring the professionalism and tactical efficiency of the forces involved.

Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Nigerian Navy stated that it will sustain aggressive, intelligence-led operations in collaboration with sister security agencies to dismantle criminal networks, curb insurgent activities, and restore lasting peace and stability in the South-East and across the country.
