Maiduguri Explosion: Governor Zulum Condemns Attack, Calls for Heightened Vigilance

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has strongly condemned the explosion that rocked parts of Maiduguri metropolis on Monday evening, describing the incident as a cowardly and inhumane act targeting innocent citizens during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Governor's Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Malam Dauda Iliya, quoted Governor Zulum as expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident.

"I am deeply saddened by the explosions that occurred in parts of the metropolis on Monday evening. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those injured as a result of the blast. The act is utterly condemnable, barbaric, and inhumane," Governor Zulum said.

The Governor, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj (Umrah), called on the people of Borno State to remain calm but vigilant, especially as the festive period approaches.

He urged worshippers and citizens to cooperate with security agencies by remaining alert and reporting any suspicious activities in places of worship and public gatherings.

According to the Governor, the recent surge in attacks is not unconnected with the intense military operations currently ongoing in the Sambisa Forest and other troubled areas. He expressed confidence that the ongoing offensives would significantly degrade the capabilities of insurgents seeking to disrupt the peace.

Governor Zulum reassured residents of the government's commitment to the safety and security of all citizens, pledging continued support to security operatives working to restore lasting peace in the state.
