Lawyer Petitions IGP Over Alleged Unlawful Arrest of 85-Year-Old Security Guard

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Godwin Ogboji, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, over the alleged unlawful arrest and detention of an 85-year-old security guard, Abubakar Aliyu.

In a petition dated March 26, 2026, Ogboji urged the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to launch a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Aliyu’s arrest. He described the incident as a grave concern, particularly given the age and vulnerability of the victim, and warned that such actions, if proven, amount to a violation of fundamental human rights guaranteed under Nigerian law.
