Kaduna-Abuja Train Derails After Collision with Stationary Carriage; Several Injure

Passengers on the Abuja-bound train from Kaduna were thrown into panic this morning after the service reportedly rammed into a stationary railway carriage near the Asham community, causing a derailment that left several passengers injured.

No Fatalities, Says NRC Boss

In an exclusive interview with Orbit News 24, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa, confirmed that emergency responders were immediately deployed to the scene.

"Preliminary reports indicate that several passengers sustained injuries, but I can confirm that there are no fatalities," Opeifa stated. "We have brought the injured passengers back to the Idu station in Abuja where they are receiving immediate medical attention."

The NRC MD assured the public that the corporation is prioritizing the welfare of the affected passengers and has launched a full-scale investigation to determine how a stationary carriage came to be on the active track.

Passengers Recount Ordeal

Speaking to Orbit News 24 from the Idu station, shaken passengers described scenes of confusion and fear.

"We just heard a loud bang and felt a violent jolt. People started screaming and falling over each other," said a passenger who wished to remain anonymous. "We are grateful to be alive, but the injuries could have been avoided if proper safety measures were in place."

Another passenger criticized the NRC for what they described as "lax safety protocols," questioning how such a collision could occur on a major rail line.

The NRC has temporarily suspended services on the route as engineers and safety inspectors assess the damage to the tracks and the rolling stock. Security personnel have also cordoned off the area around Asham to facilitate the investigation and recovery operation.
