IGP Disu Calls for Enhanced Collaboration to Combat Cybercrime in Nigeria

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has stressed the urgent need for stronger institutional collaboration and coordinated strategies in addressing the rising threat of cybercrime in Nigeria and across the global community.

The call was conveyed by the Director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC), Akaninyene Ezima, during a familiarization visit by members of the Joint Case Team on Cybercrime (JCTC) to the Centre’s headquarters in Abuja.

According to Ezima, the Inspector-General of Police emphasized that cybercrime has become one of the most pressing security challenges facing nations, requiring a united front among law enforcement agencies, intelligence bodies, and judicial institutions to effectively tackle emerging digital threats.

He noted that the increasing sophistication of cybercriminal activities, ranging from financial fraud and identity theft to cyber-enabled trafficking and online scams, demands improved intelligence-sharing, joint investigations, and stronger legal cooperation among relevant stakeholders.

The Joint Case Team on Cybercrime is a multi-agency task force comprising representatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser, Federal Ministry of Justice, Nigeria Police Force, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).
