Governor Namadi Attends Hadejia Book Launch, Donates ₦100 Million

Umar Namadi has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving history and promoting education, as he attended a book launch in Hadejia as Guest of Honour and donated ₦100 million in support of the publication.

The event, which marked 120 years of resistance by the Hadejia Emirate against colonial rule, brought together dignitaries, scholars, and community leaders to celebrate the emirate’s rich historical heritage and resilience.

The book, unveiled during the occasion, chronicles the emirate’s resistance to British colonial forces and highlights the enduring legacy of its people. Participants described the publication as an important contribution to preserving indigenous history and documenting the sacrifices of past generations.

Governor Namadi’s ₦100 million donation was one of the major highlights of the ceremony, drawing applause from attendees and encouraging massive support for the book, with stakeholders purchasing copies in large quantities and generating millions of naira.

Speaking at the event, the governor said his administration remains committed to promoting historical education and preserving cultural heritage. He added that the Jigawa State Government would consider reviewing the book for possible inclusion in the curricula of secondary and tertiary institutions across the state.

Tributes were also paid to the lineage of Hadejia’s traditional rulers, particularly Muhammad Maishada, who is remembered for leading resistance against colonial forces, and the current Emir of Hadejia, Adamu Abubakar Maje, praised for sustaining the emirate’s values of courage, resilience, and commitment to preserving its cultural and religious identity.

As part of the commemoration, Governor Namadi commissioned the Hadejia Emirate Museum, a move aimed at strengthening efforts to preserve the emirate’s historical artifacts and legacy.

The celebration also featured a colourful durbar and visits to historical sites and monuments across the emirate, as part of activities marking the 120th anniversary.

The anniversary commenced with special prayers for peace and stability in Jigawa State and the country, before concluding with renewed calls for the preservation and promotion of indigenous history as a vital part of Nigeria’s historical narrative.
