Good News Hits the Pump as Nigerian-Built Refinery Set to Crash Fuel Prices

Delta State, Nigeria – In a landmark development that could signal the beginning of the end for the endless fuel queues and price hikes across the nation, a Nigerian-owned company is putting the finishing touches on a project that promises to shake up the oil and gas sector.

Meet the Ebenco Modular Refinery. Located in Koko, Delta State, this isn't just another industrial facility—it is being hailed as the first refinery in the country to be designed, fabricated, and built entirely by Nigerian hands.

For decades, Nigeria has relied on imported machinery and foreign technical partners to run its refineries. But Dr. Ebenezer Oluwagbemiga, the Chief Executive Officer of Ebenco Global Link Limited, is rewriting that narrative. Speaking about the project, Dr. Oluwagbemiga confirmed that the facility was built from the ground up using local engineering prowess, without importing a single major component.

"It is time to prove that the Nigerian engineer is second to none," he stated.

The refinery is designed to process a massive 30,000 barrels per day (BPD) at full capacity, though it will kick off operations with an initial phase of 5,000 BPD. When the taps turn on, the plant will produce diesel, naphtha, and low-pour fuel oil—critical products that currently eat up a huge chunk of the country's foreign exchange through imports.

This news comes as a major relief to Nigerians who have watched the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and other petroleum products soar in recent months. Industry analysts believe that the injection of locally refined products into the market will foster competition and drive prices down.

The federal government is already on board. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, recently toured the facility in Koko and gave it a glowing endorsement. He described the project as a shining example of local content development and a strategic asset in the fight against crude oil theft.

"This is the way forward. Instead of illegal refining, we now have a legal, efficient, and locally made alternative," the Minister remarked.

According to the company’s timeline, production is expected to commence by 2026, pending final regulatory clearances. For now, the people of Delta State and indeed all Nigerians are watching closely, hopeful that this homegrown solution will finally bring down the cost of fuel and create thousands of jobs in the process.
