Gombe Lawmaker Calls for Transparency Over Reported ₦14.9 Billion Governor’s Residence Project

Gombe, Nigeria 🇳🇬  August 01, 2026

A member of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Hon. Mustapha Usman Hassan, has called on the Gombe State Government to provide full details regarding reports of a proposed ₦14.9 billion ultra-modern Governor's Official Residence within the Government House, Gombe.

In a statement published on his official Facebook page on Saturday, the lawmaker expressed concern over the reported cost of the project, saying the people of Gombe State deserve transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.

According to the statement, the proposed residence is expected to comprise four prototype units, each featuring a basement, ground floor, first floor, second floor and rooftop, alongside a separate section designated for the Governor.

Hon. Hassan questioned the necessity of the project amid economic hardship and the need for greater investment in healthcare, education, water supply, agriculture, security and youth employment. He called on the government to explain whether the existing Governor's Residence is unsafe, inadequate or beyond economical repair, and to justify the reported contract sum of ₦14.9 billion.

The lawmaker also requested the release of the Bill of Quantities, professional cost assessments, procurement records and other documents supporting the reported project cost.

He further raised concerns over six detached automated duplexes within the Government House, which he claimed were constructed through direct labour, completed towards the end of 2025 and remain unused. He urged the relevant authorities to disclose the approved cost, actual expenditure, source of funding, procurement process, intended purpose and current status of the buildings, as well as their projected maintenance and operational costs.

According to Hon. Hassan, the requests are consistent with the principles of transparency, accountability and value for money as enshrined in the Gombe State Public Procurement Law.

He stressed that his intervention is not aimed at politics or personalities but is part of his constitutional responsibility as a legislator to promote fiscal accountability and prudent management of public resources.

The Gombe State Government had not publicly responded to the lawmaker's claims and requests as of the time of filing this report.
