Gombe, UK Partners Strengthen Agricultural Development, Economic Growth Initiatives

The Government of Gombe State has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships aimed at boosting agricultural development, improving livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities across the state.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya made this known while receiving a delegation from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the British High Commission and Propcom+ at the Government House in Gombe.

The delegation visited the state as part of the annual review of the Propcom+ partnership with the Gombe State Government and to hold consultations on future areas of collaboration.

The team was led by Mr. Archie Stay, Food and Agriculture Adviser at the FCDO, British High Commission. Other members included Mr. Valentine Udida, Senior Programme Manager at FCDO; Dr. Adiya Ode, Country Representative of Propcom+; and Dr. Olumide Ojo, Strategy Director of Propcom+.

Speaking during the meeting, Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed confidence that the partnership between Gombe State and Propcom+ would continue to produce positive results, especially in agricultural productivity, climate adaptation, rural empowerment and economic inclusion.

The governor stated that agriculture remains a key pillar of his administration’s economic agenda, noting that collaboration with credible international development partners is essential for achieving sustainable growth and reducing poverty.

He commended the FCDO and Propcom+ for supporting reforms and intervention programmes targeted at improving the welfare of farmers, women and vulnerable groups in the state.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya particularly acknowledged the contribution of Propcom+ to the development of the state’s Agro-Industrial Policy, which has already received approval from the State Executive Council and is awaiting official launch.

He further assured the delegation of his administration’s readiness to strengthen cooperation through policies and initiatives capable of encouraging innovation, attracting investment and promoting long-term agricultural transformation.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Archie Stay, explained that the visit was aimed at reviewing the progress of ongoing engagements under the Propcom+ programme and consulting key stakeholders on the next phase of the partnership.

He praised the Gombe State Government for demonstrating strong leadership and political commitment towards programmes focused on food security, climate resilience and inclusive economic growth.

The meeting was also attended by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Alhaji Jalo Ali, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Ahmed Guli.
