FG’s Enhanced Allowances for Federal Civil Servants to Take Effect October 1, 2026

The Federal Government has announced that the newly approved enhanced allowance structure for federal civil servants will officially commence on October 1, 2026, marking a significant reform in the remuneration system of the public service.

The adjustment, which was approved through the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), covers key allowances including Duty Tour Allowance (DTA), estacode, training allowance, book allowance, and other related entitlements across all salary grade levels.

According to the approved framework, the review is aimed at improving the welfare of federal workers, strengthening motivation, and enhancing productivity within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Senior officers are expected to benefit more in areas such as foreign travel and official assignments, while junior officers will also experience incremental adjustments in relevant allowances.

The government stated that the implementation timeline was set to align with the 2026 fiscal planning cycle, allowing MDAs to properly adjust their budgets ahead of the rollout.

The reform is part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to reposition the civil service for improved efficiency and better service delivery.

With the October 1 commencement date now confirmed, civil servants across the country are expected to begin enjoying the revised allowance structure from the start of the new financial quarter.
