The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Gombe State Command, has issued a public safety advisory to residents ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, urging heightened caution to prevent fire outbreaks and related emergencies.
In a statement released on Thursday, the State Controller, DCF Suleiman Mohammed Suleiman, congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan while emphasizing the need for increased safety awareness during the festive period.
He noted that celebrations often come with a rise in fire incidents due to intensified domestic and commercial activities, stressing the importance of adopting proactive safety measures.
Residents were advised to handle gas cylinders and electrical appliances with care, avoid leaving cooking unattended, and refrain from overloading power outlets. The Command also warned against operating generators in enclosed spaces, urging their use only in well-ventilated outdoor areas.
The statement further highlighted the need for proper storage of flammable substances away from heat sources and called for close supervision of children during gatherings. It also cautioned against indiscriminate parking that could obstruct emergency response routes.
Considering current weather conditions, the Command urged residents to stay hydrated, reduce exposure to extreme heat, and be alert to symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
The Fire Service also raised concerns over the dangers associated with improper handling and storage of fuel, particularly at filling stations and within residential areas.
Residents were encouraged to promptly report fire incidents and emergencies through the following numbers: 070-314-97455 and the national emergency line, 112.
The Command reaffirmed its readiness to respond to emergencies and stressed that ensuring public safety remains a shared responsibility.
