Customs Intercepts ₦2.35bn Cocaine, Arrests 71-Year-Old Suspect
The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted cocaine worth an estimated ₦2.35 billion and arrested a 71-year-old suspect in a major anti-drug operation.
According to Customs authorities, the illicit consignment weighing 6.35 kilograms was seized along the Lagos–Abidjan corridor during an intelligence-led operation aimed at curbing drug trafficking and smuggling activities.
The seized drugs have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and possible prosecution of the suspect and any accomplices linked to the operation.
Customs officials said the interception forms part of a broader anti-smuggling crackdown across parts of South-West Nigeria, including Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Ondo states, where hundreds of smuggling attempts were foiled in recent weeks.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening border security and combating illegal trade, warning traffickers and smugglers that enforcement operations will continue across the country.
