Bauchi ACReSAL Reaffirms Commitment to Climate Resilience, Greening Initiatives

The Bauchi State Project Management Unit (SPMU) of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project (ACReSAL) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting climate resilience, environmental sustainability and livelihood improvement through strategic partnerships and targeted interventions across the state.

The State Project Coordinator, Dr. Ibrahim Kabir, made the pledge during separate courtesy visits by Green-Tech Visionary Enterprise, the Coalition of Nigerian Youths on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA), and the Ecology Students Association of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU).

Represented by the Forestry Officer of the project, Nasiru Abdu Umar, the coordinator stated that Bauchi ACReSAL remains committed to collaborating with organizations and stakeholders whose initiatives align with the project's objectives of addressing environmental challenges and improving livelihoods in the agriculture, environment and water resources sectors.

Speaking during the visit, Managing Director of Green-Tech Visionary Enterprise, Rabiu Umar Oyakhilome, said the organization focuses on climate innovation and climate-smart solutions. He explained that the visit was aimed at presenting the company's initiatives, sharing experiences gathered from engagements with farmers and stakeholders, and exploring areas of partnership with ACReSAL to strengthen community resilience and climate-smart agricultural practices.

Also speaking, the Bauchi State Coordinator of CONYSSA, Comrade Muhammad Nasir, described the coalition as a network of youths and volunteer uniformed organizations dedicated to enlightenment, rehabilitation, empowerment and community development. He noted that the organization has branches across the 20 local government areas of the state and seeks collaboration with ACReSAL in environmental conservation and youth-driven development initiatives.

On his part, President of the Ecology Students Association, ATBU, Comrade Abubakar Hassan Idris, presented the association's proposed project titled "ATBU Green Legacy Initiative: Environmental Sustainability, Community Engagement and Campus Transformation Project."

He explained that the project focuses on ecological garden development, tree planting campaigns, environmental awareness programmes, waste management advocacy and campus sanitation improvement. He appealed for ACReSAL's support in implementing the initiative.

Responding, the ACReSAL coordinator welcomed the organizations and assured them of a mutually beneficial relationship. He emphasized that the project prioritizes partnerships with organizations that possess wide-reaching platforms capable of extending the impact of ACReSAL interventions to communities across Bauchi State.

He commended Green-Tech Visionary Enterprise for its contributions to climate-smart agriculture and technological innovations aimed at strengthening resilience in the agricultural sector. According to him, climate-smart agriculture remains one of the key components of the ACReSAL project, and collaboration with innovative organizations would help boost agricultural productivity and food security.

The project also pledged to work closely with CONYSSA in safeguarding ACReSAL investments across communities and announced plans to involve the coalition in Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) committees in project intervention areas.

For the Ecology Students Association, ACReSAL assured support for initiatives that promote environmental sustainability, tree planting and climate resilience. The project encouraged the association to commence implementation of its programmes, assuring that ACReSAL would complement its efforts where necessary.

The acting State Project Coordinator further reiterated ACReSAL's readiness to support initiatives that advance greening programmes, climate resilience and technology-driven environmental solutions, noting that such efforts are in line with the project's development objectives.

Other ACReSAL officials, including the Agriculture and Climate Change Officer, Mahmud Bala Umar; Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Adams Haruna Zuku; and Project Engineer, Mukhtar Yerima Giade, also expressed appreciation for the visits and pledged productive collaboration with the organizations.

The engagements underscore ACReSAL's continued commitment to building strategic partnerships aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, climate resilience and sustainable development across Bauchi State.
