Breaking News: APC Secures Total Control of Gombe Assembly as Last PDP Lawmaker Defects

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has further consolidated the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state following the defection of the last opposition lawmaker in the State House of Assembly.

Hon. Yakubu Daniel, also known as Shetiman Bare and Member representing Billiri East Constituency, officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, effectively leaving the opposition without representation in the Gombe State legislature.

The defection marks a significant political shift in the state, coming after an earlier wave of crossovers by other opposition lawmakers, including members of the minority leadership, who had previously joined the ruling party.

Receiving the lawmaker into the APC fold in Gombe, Governor Inuwa Yahaya described the development as a strong endorsement of the party’s leadership and governance approach at both the state and national levels. He assured the new entrant of equal opportunities within the party, emphasizing that the APC remains committed to inclusiveness, unity, and good governance.

The governor attributed the party’s growing dominance to increasing public confidence in his administration’s policies and development initiatives. He also linked the trend to support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his remarks, Hon. Yakubu Daniel said his decision to join the APC was driven by what he described as Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s people-centered leadership style, anchored on transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery.

He pledged loyalty to the APC and expressed readiness to contribute to the party’s growth and success in Billiri East Constituency and across the state.

The lawmaker was accompanied to the Government House by the Speaker and other members of the Assembly, signaling a unified front within the legislature following the defection.

With this latest development, the APC now holds complete control of the Gombe State House of Assembly, further strengthening its political influence in the state.
