ALLEGED CONTRACT IRREGULARITIES IN YOBE SPARK FRESH PUBLIC OUTCRY

Allegations of widespread contract irregularities involving Damuli Investment Company Nigeria Limited have triggered renewed concern across Yobe State, with stakeholders calling for transparency and accountability.

The controversy, which first surfaced in September 2025, centres on claims that the company handled several government contracts worth billions of naira, many of which are reportedly either abandoned or poorly executed.

A petition submitted by elders from Gujba Local Government Area alleged that over ₦1.49 billion was paid to the company for the renovation and construction of the Government Lodge in Gujba. However, the petition claims that despite the full disbursement of funds, the project has recorded little or no meaningful progress.

Further reports suggest that out of about 32 contracts awarded to the firm, only one has been completed to a satisfactory standard. Most of the remaining projects are reportedly below 50 percent completion, raising serious concerns about the management of public funds.

Critical sectors, particularly healthcare infrastructure, appear to be affected, with projects spanning towns such as Damaturu, Potiskum, Nguru, Geidam, Gashua, and Damagun said to be among those impacted.

Attention has also been drawn to an alleged link between the company and the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali. Although no official wrongdoing has been confirmed, the perceived association has fueled public speculation, especially in light of the approaching 2027 governorship election.

Despite the concerns, the company has been credited with executing some projects, including a ₦272 million administrative block at Mai Idriss Alooma Polytechnic, Geidam, awarded in September 2024. It has also reportedly contributed to certain educational initiatives within the state.

Meanwhile, the Yobe State House of Assembly has faced criticism over its investigation into the matter. Some observers have questioned the outcome of the probe, alleging that the company was cleared despite indications of underperformance.

With political activities gradually intensifying ahead of the 2027 general elections, the issue continues to influence public discourse in the state, including discussions around leadership succession after the tenure of Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Stakeholders have urged calm while emphasizing the need for a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation to ascertain the facts and ensure accountability.
