‘APC Controlling 31 States Can’t Fear ADC’ — Gov Sule

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a minor political threat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sule said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has no reason to be concerned about an opposition party that does not control any state in the country.

He described claims of a rising opposition force as a recurring political narrative, noting that attention often shifts between parties.

“At one point, they said the Peoples Democratic Party is the strongest opposition to our party, now it is the ADC. You’ll continue to hear this goalpost keep moving. There’s no problem whatsoever with our party. A party controlling 31 states cannot actually be scared of a party that doesn’t control one state,” Sule stated.

On the issue of insecurity, the governor acknowledged the seriousness of terrorism and banditry challenges across the country but expressed confidence in state policing as a viable solution.

He disclosed that at a recent meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), 35 out of 37 members endorsed the establishment of state police.

According to him, the initiative requires constitutional amendments and approvals from the National Assembly of Nigeria and state assemblies, which explains the delay in implementation.

Sule reaffirmed that most states, including Nasarawa, strongly support the move, describing it as a necessary structural reform to tackle insecurity.

Meanwhile, the ADC continues to position itself as a key opposition platform ahead of 2027, attracting defections from across the political landscape as it seeks to challenge the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
