Zamfara Governor Hails Military Offensive Against Bandits, Praises Troops’ Sacrifice

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has praised troops and other security operatives for their renewed offensive against armed bandits, following reports of the elimination of several notorious criminal leaders operating across the state.

The governor described the development as a major milestone in the fight against insecurity in Zamfara and the wider North-West region, noting that the recent operations have boosted public confidence in ongoing efforts to restore peace.

In a statement made available to journalists, Lawal commended the bravery, professionalism, and commitment of military personnel involved in the coordinated operations targeting criminal hideouts and forest enclaves known to harbour bandit groups.

According to him, the successes recorded by troops demonstrate the determination of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies to dismantle criminal networks responsible for persistent attacks, killings, kidnappings, cattle rustling, and destruction of communities across the state.

The governor noted that residents of Zamfara have suffered years of violent attacks carried out by heavily armed gangs, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes while many farming communities abandoned agricultural activities due to fear of attacks.

He said the latest military victories have brought renewed hope to residents who have long demanded stronger action against armed groups terrorising rural communities.

Lawal further assured security agencies of the continued support of the Zamfara State Government through logistics assistance, intelligence sharing, and community-based security collaboration aimed at improving ongoing operations.

He also urged residents to continue cooperating with security operatives by providing timely and credible information capable of helping authorities track down fleeing criminals and their collaborators.

The governor stressed that security remains a top priority of his administration, adding that peace and stability are necessary for economic growth, farming activities, education, and development across the state.

While commending the troops, Lawal also paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing their sacrifices as patriotic and invaluable to the nation’s security.

Recent military offensives in Zamfara and neighbouring North-West states have reportedly led to the destruction of several bandit camps and the neutralisation of suspected criminal commanders, as security forces intensify efforts to curb armed violence in the region.

Residents and community leaders have continued to call for sustained operations to prevent the regrouping of bandit gangs and ensure lasting peace in affected communities.
