Tinubu Reaffirms Federal Support for Ibom Deep Seaport, Says Gov Eno

Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reassured him of the Federal Government’s commitment to support the long-delayed Ibom Deep Seaport project, a major infrastructure initiative expected to boost the state’s economic development.

Governor Eno made the statement on Saturday during the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State. The event attracted thousands of women from across the 31 local government areas of the state.

Speaking at the gathering, the governor expressed optimism that the Federal Government would fulfill its promise to support the seaport project, which he described as a strategic economic gateway capable of transforming the maritime and industrial landscape of the state and the wider Niger Delta region.

According to him, the proposed Ibom Deep Seaport will open up new opportunities in international trade, shipping, and logistics, while also attracting foreign investment and creating thousands of jobs for residents.

Governor Eno noted that the Federal Government under President Tinubu remains committed to major development projects that will enhance the economic fortunes of the state, including the seaport project and other key infrastructure initiatives.

The Ibom Deep Seaport project, first conceived years ago, is considered one of the most ambitious economic projects in the state and is expected to position Akwa Ibom as a major maritime hub in West Africa once completed.

Observers believe that the successful execution of the project will significantly improve trade activities, reduce pressure on existing seaports in Nigeria, and stimulate economic growth across the South-South region.

The governor therefore urged continued cooperation between the state and federal governments, stressing that partnership and support from the centre are crucial for the realization of the project.
