Police Arrest Notorious Thug, Armed Robbery Suspects in Bauchi

Operatives of the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters in Bauchi have arrested a suspected notorious thug and armed robber, Yakubu Mohammed Auwal, popularly known as “World Boy,” in connection with a series of violent robbery attacks in the state.

The suspect, a resident of Magaji Quarters in Bauchi, was apprehended after he allegedly stabbed Shamsuddeen of Anguwan Sarakuna in the lap and robbed him of a Techno POP 5 mobile phone and ₦20,000.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said investigations further linked the suspect with another individual, Bala Mohammed, also known as “Balagus.” On March 7, 2026, the duo allegedly armed themselves with knives and attacked a woman identified as Ijeoma Neonye at Magaji Quarters.

According to the police, the suspects stabbed the victim and stole an Infinix Smart 7 Plus mobile phone, ₦280,000 in cash, a Rolex chain wristwatch, and other valuables.

The command also revealed that earlier on February 22, 2026, “World Boy” and another accomplice identified as Amir, who is currently at large, attacked Usama Abdullahi, stabbed him on the left shoulder, and dispossessed him of a Techno POP 5 phone.

While Bala Mohammed, also known as “Balagus,” has been arrested, Amir remains on the run.

Police said the suspect had previously been known for engaging in “Sara-Suka” thuggery activities around Magaji Quarters, Anguwan Sarakuna, and Rafin Makaranta, where several violent clashes had been recorded.

“World Boy” was earlier arrested, prosecuted, and convicted in 2024 without the option of a fine, but later resurfaced in the community and allegedly resumed criminal activities.

Items recovered from the suspect include two sharp knives, one pair of scissors, and a Techno POP 5 phone believed to belong to one of the victims.

In a separate incident, Magdalene of Gwallameji reported to the ‘E’ Division Yelwa, Bauchi, that on March 7, 2026, a suspect identified as Usama Salihu threatened her with a knife and robbed her of an Infinix Smart 9 smartphone and an Itel keypad phone.

Police detectives subsequently arrested the suspect and recovered the Infinix Smart 9 as an exhibit. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, assured residents that the command remains committed to strengthening security and tackling criminal activities across the state.
