Oshiomhole Alleges Akpabio Wants Him Sidelined from Senate

Abuja, Nigeria 🇳🇬 June 14, 2026

Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio harbours a strong bias against him and would prefer to see him excluded from the Senate.

Speaking during a recent podcast interview, Oshiomhole claimed that Akpabio had become increasingly uncomfortable with his presence and contributions in the upper legislative chamber. According to the former Nigeria Labour Congress president, “If Akpabio has his way, he would lock me out of the Senate.”

The senator alleged that the Senate President's disposition towards him was well known among lawmakers and suggested that several senators were dissatisfied with the current leadership style in the National Assembly.

Oshiomhole further claimed that Akpabio often viewed him with suspicion despite their membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He cited instances which he said reflected the Senate President’s concerns about his influence among fellow lawmakers.

The comments come against the backdrop of recent disagreements between the two politicians over Senate procedures and legislative matters. Their differences became public during debates on amendments to Senate rules, where both lawmakers exchanged sharp remarks on the floor of the chamber.

Political observers say the latest allegations may further expose underlying tensions within the leadership of the 10th Senate and could reignite discussions about internal dynamics among members of the ruling party.

Neither Akpabio nor his office had publicly responded to Oshiomhole's remarks at the time of filing this report.
