NORTHERN GOVERNORS BACK TINUBU, FOCUS ON SECURITY AND DEVELOPMENT AT ABUJA MEETING — NSGF

Governors from the nineteen Northern states, under the platform of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Federal Government in tackling security challenges and driving development across the region.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the Forum’s meeting held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Gombe State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.

In the communiqué signed by the Chairman of the Forum, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the governors pledged their continued support for the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in addressing evolving security threats across the country.

The Forum emphasized its dedication to ensuring lasting peace and stability in Northern Nigeria and called on citizens to support the President, the armed forces, and other security agencies in safeguarding the nation.

The governors also commended the collective efforts of member states in addressing security and developmental challenges, noting that such collaboration is already yielding positive results. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening these joint efforts to sustain progress in the region.

On institutional development, the Forum applauded ongoing efforts to strengthen and restructure its operations. It resolved to support the digitisation of its Secretariat to improve coordination, continuity, and overall effectiveness in policy implementation.

In a move aimed at boosting internally generated revenue, the Forum agreed to engage consultants to explore strategies for identifying and maximizing taxable revenue opportunities within the region.

The governors further resolved to continue engaging with the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer regarding the establishment of the New Nigeria Energy Company (NNEC), a key component of the Sun Africa Project.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to reconvene at a later date to be announced.
