Gombe ACReSAL Trains 225 Peace Building Committee Members to Strengthen Conflict Prevention

Gombe, Nigeria 🇳🇬  June 11, 2026

The Gombe State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project has commenced a three-day step-down training programme for 225 members of Peace Building Committees drawn from across the state, aimed at enhancing community-based conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms.

Speaking at the opening of the training in Gombe, the State Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, said the initiative was designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to identify emerging conflicts and implement effective strategies for their prevention and peaceful resolution.

Dr. Jauro revealed that a total of 46 project-related conflicts had been recorded and successfully resolved during the implementation of ACReSAL interventions in various communities across Gombe State.

He commended traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and particularly chairmen of the Peace Building Committees for their commitment to promoting peace and preventing disputes from escalating into major conflicts.

According to him, the peaceful atmosphere currently being enjoyed in Gombe State has significantly contributed to the successful execution of ACReSAL projects and interventions.

The Project Coordinator attributed the sustained peace in the state to the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, noting that the administration has taken proactive measures to address farmer-herder conflicts and other communal disputes.

"The governor has made tremendous efforts in addressing farmer-herder conflicts through the establishment of a white paper committee on cattle routes and grazing lands, which is working towards ensuring lasting peace between farmers and herders," he said.

Dr. Jauro urged participants to take full advantage of the training and ensure that the knowledge gained is shared with other members of their communities to strengthen grassroots peacebuilding efforts.

In separate goodwill messages, the Social and Livelihood Officer of the Gombe State ACReSAL Focal NGO, Dr. Danladi Adamu, the District Head of Kaltungo, Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar, and the Billiri ACReSAL Desk Officer, Mohammed Yusuf, pledged their continued support for the successful implementation of ACReSAL activities across the state.

They also lauded Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his unwavering support towards the success of the ACReSAL Project and other development initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and fostering peaceful coexistence among communities in Gombe State.
