FG Flags Off Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Super Highway

 The Federal Government has officially flagged off the construction of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Super Highway, a major road infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity, boosting economic activities and enhancing regional integration across Northern Nigeria.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Wednesday in Akwanga, where the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The project forms part of the Tinubu administration's highway development programme designed to link Nigeria's coastal, savannah and Sahel regions through modern road infrastructure capable of facilitating trade, reducing travel time and expanding economic opportunities.

Speaking during the ceremony, Prof. Yilwatda said the project aligns with the President's Renewed Hope Agenda and reflects the administration's commitment to delivering infrastructure that will stimulate economic growth, promote national unity and improve the quality of life of Nigerians.

He said the Federal Government remains focused on executing projects with lasting socio-economic benefits across all regions of the country.

Gombe State Governor and Chairman of the Northern States Governors' Forum, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who attended the event alongside other dignitaries, described the super highway as a transformational project that would strengthen commerce, improve security, create jobs and connect communities across several geopolitical zones.

According to him, the road project will not only provide a modern transportation network but also reduce the cost of moving goods and services while opening new opportunities for businesses and investors.

Also speaking on behalf of the Northern States Governors' Forum, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang said the people of Northern Nigeria appreciate the Federal Government's commitment to equitable development, expressing confidence that the highway would rank among the landmark achievements of the Tinubu administration.

Earlier, the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, gave an overview of the project, assuring Nigerians that construction would be carried out by reputable contractors in line with the highest engineering standards.

Umahi said the highway is expected to improve logistics, ease the transportation of agricultural produce and manufactured goods, lower transportation costs and stimulate economic activities along the corridor.

The flag-off comes shortly after the commencement of construction on the Gombe–Biu section of the same highway project, underscoring the Federal Government's determination to accelerate work on the strategic transport corridor linking North-Central and North-East Nigeria.
