Seven AIGs Promoted to DIG as Police Leadership Reshuffle Follows Egbetokun’s Exit

The Police Service Commission has promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) in a move aimed at strengthening the leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force.

The promotions come amid changes in the police hierarchy following the reported resignation of the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The development has also paved the way for the retirement of several DIGs who served during Egbetokun’s tenure. According to the commission, the new appointments were necessary to fill vacancies created by the retirement of eight DIGs who previously held strategic positions within the police management team.

However, one DIG, Fayoade Adegoke, who was promoted five days after Egbetokun left office, will remain in the position and join the Force Management Team.

In a statement issued on Friday, the spokesman of the commission, Torty Kalu, announced that the officers elevated to the rank of DIG include:

Zachariah Fera Achinyan – formerly AIG Zone 4, Makurdi

Zango Ibrahim Baba – formerly AIG Department of Logistics and Supply

Isyaku Mohammed – formerly AIG Armament, Force Headquarters, Abuja

Margaret Agebe Ochalla – formerly AIG FCID Annex, Lagos

Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman – formerly AIG Police Accounts and Budget, Force Headquarters, Abuja

Kenechukwu Onwuemelie – formerly AIG Zone 15, Maiduguri

Umar Shehu Nadada – formerly AIG Zone 14, Katsina

Kalu explained that the promotions were based on merit, seniority, record of service, and the officers’ performance in written examinations and oral interviews conducted at the commission’s corporate headquarters in Abuja.

The Chairman of the commission, Hashimu Argungu, congratulated the newly promoted DIGs and urged them to live up to the expectations of their new offices.

He also charged them to prioritise national security and maintain a cordial working relationship with the commission to ensure continued development and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.
