Over 10,000 Armed Bandits Attacking Communities in Bauchi – Gov Bala Mohammed

By Orbit News 24

The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has revealed that more than 10,000 armed bandits are currently terrorising communities in Alkaleri Local Government Area, forcing residents to flee their homes.

The governor made the disclosure on Thursday during a visit to internally displaced persons (IDPs) who escaped from the affected communities of Mansur, Yalau, Futuk, Duguri, and Gwana following recent bandit attacks.

The displaced residents are currently taking shelter in a government learning facility in Kashere, located in neighbouring Gombe State.

While sympathising with the victims, Governor Mohammed described the security situation in the area as “very bad,” noting that thousands of heavily armed bandits have forced many villagers to abandon their homes.

According to the governor, about 10,000 well-armed bandits are believed to be operating in the affected areas, carrying out attacks and displacing residents.

He appealed to the Federal Government of Nigeria for urgent intervention to address the worsening security crisis and protect vulnerable communities.

Governor Mohammed further alleged that the bandits are expanding their ranks by recruiting both locals and outsiders, including individuals previously involved in illegal mining activities.

The governor stressed the need for coordinated security operations and stronger support from federal authorities to restore peace and enable displaced residents to safely return to their communities.
