Gombe ACReSAL Wins NUJ Award as State’s Most Media-Friendly Organization

The Nigeria Union of Journalists has honoured the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project with the award for Best Media-Friendly Organization in Gombe State.

The recognition was presented during the NUJ 2025 Dinner and Award Night held at Custodian Hotel, in acknowledgement of the project’s collaboration with the media and its efforts in promoting environmental awareness.

Speaking after receiving the award, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro expressed appreciation to the NUJ for the honour, describing it as a motivation to sustain the project’s partnership with journalists across the state.

He explained that ACReSAL’s open relationship with the media aligns with the vision of Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who has consistently encouraged strong engagement with the press in driving public awareness on climate and environmental issues.

According to him, the media has played a vital role in amplifying the achievements of the ACReSAL project, especially in educating communities on the dangers of climate change and the need for environmental sustainability.

Dr. Jauro also revealed that the project sponsored five journalists who were later recognised as the state’s Best Climate Advocate Journalists, as part of efforts to encourage excellence in climate and environmental reporting.

He commended professional journalists for their commitment to responsible journalism while cautioning against the activities of fake journalists, urging media practitioners to embrace professionalism, ethical conduct, and continuous self-improvement.

The award was dedicated to Governor Inuwa Yahaya, ACReSAL Team Leader Dr. Joy Iganya Agene, National Project Coordinator Abdulhamid Umar, and the entire ACReSAL workforce for their contributions to climate resilience and environmental protection in Gombe State.
