DIG Advocates Body Cameras for Police Officers to Boost Transparency

The Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), DIG Dasuki Galandanchi, has advocated the deployment of body-worn cameras for police officers across the country as part of efforts to strengthen accountability, transparency, and professionalism in policing.

Speaking at a stakeholders' engagement on modern policing technologies, the DIG emphasized that body-worn cameras have become an essential tool in contemporary law enforcement, helping to improve interactions between officers and the public while providing reliable records of police operations.

According to him, the adoption of body-worn cameras would help reduce cases of misconduct, promote ethical conduct among officers, and ensure that incidents involving law enforcement personnel are accurately documented.

He noted that the technology would not only protect citizens from potential abuses but also safeguard police officers from false accusations by providing objective evidence of events during official duties.

"The use of body-worn cameras is a critical step toward building public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police Force. It enhances transparency and ensures that officers are held accountable for their actions while carrying out their responsibilities," he said.
