ACReSAL Hands Over Security Base to NSCDC Agro Rangers to Boost Kanawa Forest Protection

The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project in Gombe State has handed over newly constructed security facilities to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Agro Rangers as part of efforts to strengthen the protection of the Kanawa Forest and enhance environmental security in the state.

The handover ceremony, held at the forest base station, marked a significant step in the state government’s drive to preserve and develop the forest into a major centre for research and tourism.

Speaking at the event, Mohammed Bello Abubakar praised the ACReSAL Project for its commitment to environmental protection and security, describing the initiative as a strategic intervention aimed at safeguarding one of the state’s key natural assets. He reaffirmed the government’s determination to protect the Kanawa Forest and elevate it to international standards.

The State Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, said the project was carried out on the directive of Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to provide stronger operational support for forest security.

According to him, the newly completed facilities include a security office, research centre, officers’ quarters, and motorcycles to support patrol activities within the forest. He noted that the project would continue to receive attention until Kanawa Forest becomes a recognised destination for research and eco-tourism.

The Gombe State Commandant of the NSCDC, Idris Jibril, commended ACReSAL and the state government for the intervention, assuring that the Corps would intensify efforts to maintain peace and security within the forest reserve.

Also speaking, the District Head of Kwadon, Alhassan Abubakar, lauded the developmental efforts of ACReSAL and pledged community support for security agencies working to protect the forest and nearby communities.

As a highlight of the event, the traditional ruler conferred the title of Wakilin Raya Karkarar Kwadon on Dr. Jauro in recognition of his contributions to environmental development and rural advancement.

On behalf of the ACReSAL team, Communications Officer Richard James expressed appreciation for the recognition, stating that the honour would further inspire the team’s commitment to environmental sustainability, community security, and the transformation of Kanawa Forest into a hub for research and tourism.
