“Era of Impunity Gone,” Says IGP Tunji Disu

The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has declared that the era of impunity within the Nigeria Police Force is over, pledging sweeping reforms aimed at restoring public confidence and improving professionalism across the force.

Speaking during an official engagement, the police chief said his administration is committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and discipline among officers and personnel nationwide.

According to him, officers found guilty of misconduct, abuse of office, extortion, or human rights violations will face strict disciplinary actions, stressing that the force must regain the trust of Nigerians through responsible and people-oriented policing.

IGP Disu also promised significant reforms within the police structure, including improved welfare for officers, enhanced training, and the deployment of modern policing strategies to tackle insecurity and criminal activities across the country.

As part of the planned reforms, the Inspector-General announced efforts to upgrade the traffic warden unit of the police force. He explained that the unit would be restructured and equipped to improve traffic management, public safety, and professionalism on Nigerian roads.

He noted that the new direction of the force would focus on service delivery, integrity, and respect for the rule of law, while encouraging citizens to cooperate with security agencies in the fight against crime.

The statement comes amid increasing calls from civil society groups and members of the public for police accountability and institutional reforms within the country’s security sector.
